Every year, around 1.6 million to 1.7 million college-bound teens take the SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test). For many of these teens, the SAT is the first challenge that may potentially shape their future.

A student’s SAT score is a major, integral part of the whole college application process. It may either help open doors or close some. Which brings us to the question: “Should high school students take SAT prep courses?”

Based on our experience with our kids, the answer to this is a resounding “Yes” for a lot of reasons, which we’ll discuss later. Our teens definitely found SAT prep courses to be really very helpful.

Students who are enrolled in preparatory SAT classes score, on average, 56 points higher on their exams than their peers who did not take the course. Simply by statistics, the extra points may be the difference between a student’s top choice and a range school.

There are some tricks associated with taking the SAT. SAT prep course will teach kids what to do when they come across a question they don’t understand, how to divide their time during each section, and even what can and cannot be brought to the test.   1. I agree with you. Things a lot harder nowadays. A lot harder when I took the SAT, that’s for sure! Our kids need all the support that they can get. For me, SAT prep courses are definitely worth the investment. It’s just a matter of choosing the right one.
